This is used to support the progress of students that are below expected level in Literacy and Numeracy. The funding is used to offer these students bespoke 1 to 1 or small group intervention with specialised Literacy and Numeracy teachers to support their development and enable them to access all parts of the curriculum.
Literacy Intervention
Cohorts for reading intervention are determined based on:
Pupils with a KS2 score (reading) below 100
Pupils with a KS2 score (reading) below the ‘national average’ of 106 (2019)
Lessons commence from September. Pupils follow a structured reading recovery programme and are retested at in October. Cohorts then refined based upon results. It is expected that all pupils in the 100-104 category graduate from the programme at this point.
This process is repeated throughout the year until all pupils reach the required level.
Class teachers are made aware of pupils who are receiving intervention and are informed of their progress throughout the year.
Parents are informed and supported with a range of strategies to support their child with home learning.
September 2019-20
The number of pupils below the 'expected ' level of 100 in 2019 was 47 pupils. An additional numeracy lesson was introduced in 2019-20 to support our lowest attaining pupils on entry. Our young mathematicians took part in our 1 to 1 intervention programme to make gains in progress and self-confidence. On completion of Year 7 2019-20 Maths intervention the results of the catch-up cohort were encouraging.
All pupils who started RHS under the national expected standard in Maths where provided 1 to 1 support and were given the opportunity to show improvement on their SAT scores. All pupils identified improved within one grade of EAP target and 60% improved significantly to be within half a grade or less of EAP target. Through Student Voice it was noted that all pupils who received 1 to 1 Maths Catch up intervention gave positive feedback about their experience.
Year 7 Entry Profile Maths 20-21
No Year 6 pupils were able to sit the Key Stage 2 SAT tests this summer. To help our transition process and identify cohorts of intervention all Year 7 pupils are sitting CAT tests during Half term 1. The maths 1 to 1 programme continues to support our most vulnerable mathematicians and helps make great gains in learners progress and self confidence. Pupil’s progress is regularly tracked throughout Year 7 and any learners who continue to show low levels of attainment and confidence will continue to receive maths intervention in the form of 1 to 1 or after school group session.
