Rainhill Students Scale New Heights on Peru Adventure

A group of Rainhill High School students have returned from a month-long expedition to Peru, having trekked through the Andes, completed vital community projects, and gained memories to last a lifetime.

The 16-strong team, accompanied by staff member Ms Chittenden, set off on 10 July for the 6,150-mile journey via Colombia and Lima before arriving in Cusco, the gateway to the mountains. From there, they travelled to Camp Maras, their home for the first stage of the trip.

During their stay, the students worked at Tarawasi Primary School, helping to build a driveway so food programme delivery trucks could reach the site more easily. “It felt amazing to know we’d left something behind that will really help the school,” said one student.

The group also trekked through the Sacred Valley, tried their hand at pizza-making, and took on the ultimate challenge – the high-altitude Salkantay Pass. The demanding climb tested their stamina but rewarded them with breathtaking views and a huge sense of achievement.

After nearly four weeks away, the team returned to school on 7 August to a warm welcome. Headteacher [Name] praised the students for their resilience and teamwork, and thanked Ms Chittenden “for giving up her time to make this experience possible.”

The expedition, run in partnership with Camps International, was described by participants as “an adventure of a lifetime” – one that has left them with new skills, stronger friendships, and a deep connection to the people and landscapes of Peru.
