Homework Timetable

HOMEWORK INFORMATION
At Rainhill High School, homework plays a vital role in reinforcing learning, building independence, and fostering a culture of high expectations. Aligned with our commitment to the pursuit of excellence, Key Stage 3, 4 and 5 students are set purposeful homework tasks designed to strengthen core skills and provide a solid foundation for future success. All homework will be set via Synergy every WKA and completed by Wednesday WKB using the platforms below.

Educational research highlights that consistent practice in literacy, numeracy, and language acquisition enhances cognitive development and enables students to access a broader and more challenging curriculum as they progress through school. For students in Year 8 and Year 9 this develops to include Science.

In preparation for assessments, teachers may set revision activities using the study skills strategies that pupils explore during tutor time. These tasks are designed to develop students’ independent study skills and should be seen as supplementary to the standard homework approach—not as additional homework to be submitted.

Year 10 & Year 11

Aligned with our commitment to the pursuit of excellence, students in Key Stages 4 and 5 are set purposeful homework tasks designed to support long-term progress and ensure success in their GCSE, A Level, and vocational qualifications. Students will be set homework weekly from the subjects they are studying.

Homework at this stage builds upon the strong foundations established at Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, as applicable, with subject-specific tasks that promote deeper understanding, encourage independent study, and prepare students for examinations, controlled assessments, NEAs and future learning. In addition, teachers will utilise the study skills embedded at KS3 with KS4/5 students when setting revision activities.

As students' progress through their courses, they are expected to take increasing ownership of their learning. Homework is also a key tool for developing time management, resilience, and effective study habits—skills essential for academic success and lifelong learning.
