Rainhill High School is looking to recruit Governors

A small number of posts have become available in our local Governing Body. Our recent review of the skills and experience in our existing has identified various needs to complement the existing team.

Local Governing Body – We are looking for Senior Professionals with experience of board level decision making and anyone with recent/existing experience of the education sector (preferably 11-18) at a senior level.

What is a school Governor?

Governors make decisions about the future of schools; they decide how funding is spent, support and challenge leaders, guide what children learn and the values they live by. These decisions influence the direction of the school and ultimately shape young people’s opportunities to achieve their full potential.

Why become a governor?

Bring a different way of thinking – being part of a group of people that have different insights and experiences ensures balanced conversations.

Be a role model – if young people see people like them in roles across the school, including on governing boards, this will give them confidence in what they can achieve and raise their aspirations.

Give your local community confidence in its schools – having a diverse governing board provides a connectedness between a school and its community. It shows that the governing board is making an effort to understand the lives and context people from across the community.

Provide insight on issues faced by young people – be able to offer a much-needed insight into the lives young people are living.

Help create a culture of inclusion – being part of a diverse and inclusive governing board is vital in setting the culture and being a catalyst for change for diversity to thrive at all levels throughout the school.

Gain skills to grow yourself – there are lots of skills and experience to be gained by becoming a school governor. This is a strategic, board level role where you are involved in lots of conversations and collective decisions – regular disciplines covered include finance, human resources and communications whilst plenty of softer skills can be utilised.

Would you like to volunteer and help us?

We are currently looking for an army of volunteers to carry out various roles following the Government announcement to deliver weekly lateral flow tests from January onwards to staff and pupils in secondary schools until Easter 2021.

There will be a variety of roles to be undertaken, of which you can undertake one or more!

  • Testing Assistants
  • Test Processors
  • Admin roles (Registration of tests and results processors)
  • Cleaners

If you are available immediately on a weekly basis - we would love to hear from you! Whether you are a parent, community orientated or just have spare time on your hands – any help would be greatly appreciated.

Training will be provided as well as full PPE equipment.

Governance Vacancies on the Board of Trustees

Stephenson Multi Academy Trust currently comprises of just over 1800 students across Rainhill High School and Sixth Form, with partners Robbie Fowler Football Academy and Liverpool Football Club.

When children join us at the age of 11, they join a very special community. As a school we value each student as an individual and aim to provide the best level of care, learning and development for each one of them, within and beyond the classroom. Our aim is to ensure that students leave us as happy, self-assured and independent individuals with a clear sense of social responsibility and the skills and qualifications to take their next steps confidently.

We are currently seeking dynamic, committed and morally principled people to work with us who will share our commitment to excellence, innovation and collaboration and who can attend daytime and/or evening meetings, with any of the following skillset/experience:

  • Accountancy and/or Finance
  • Legal skills and/or qualifications
  • Education (any phase)

In return, you would know that you would be making a difference to the life chances of children and young people.

As a Trustee you would not be expected to have a working knowledge of the education sector; what is more important to the role is your specific working skillset.

The role of Trustee would be challenging but also rewarding; in giving something back to the community, Trustees would develop a range of both new and existing skills in addition to receiving free training and opportunities for professional development.

The typical time commitment would be to attend three Board meetings and three Sub-Committee meetings per year in addition to the AGM, and at least one visit to the site during the working day to undertake a tour and/or Link Trustee visit.
