Celebrating Academic Excellence
I am delighted to share that Rainhill High School achieved the highest Attainment 8 score of any state-funded secondary school in St Helens. Our score of 50.3, which reflects achievement across eight qualifications, is above the national average of 46.2.
Almost three-quarters of our pupils achieved grades 4 or above in both English and mathematics, while more than half achieved grades 5 or above in both subjects. Both outcomes exceed the national average.
We are also incredibly proud that Rainhill ranks sixth for Attainment 8 among mixed-sex, non-selective state-funded secondary schools across the Liverpool City Region with published 2026 results. Our results exceed the averages of all six local authorities for Attainment 8 and English and mathematics at both grades 4+ and 5+.
These achievements are a testament to the determination of our pupils, the expertise and dedication of our staff, and the invaluable support you provide at home. They demonstrate what can be achieved when we work together in pursuit of excellence.
The Department for Education’s Key Stage 5 performance data has not yet been published. We look forward to its release and the opportunity to share how our Sixth Form outcomes compare nationally and locally.
So Much More Than Examination Results
Whilst academic success is incredibly important, our ambition for every young person extends far beyond examination results. We want our pupils to enjoy learning, discover their interests, embrace new opportunities and develop the confidence and character to succeed in whatever they choose to do.
This week’s newsletter is a wonderful reflection of the breadth of opportunities available at Rainhill. From our talented dancers achieving outstanding success at Disney, to Year 8 exploring Yorkshire Sculpture Park, our Languages Day celebrations and the inspiring Commando Chef workshop for our Sixth Form students, there is so much to celebrate.
I am particularly proud of the many pupils recognised through our Achievers nominations, Lion Awards and Vice Principal Awards. These achievements remind us that excellence comes in many forms. We are equally proud to recognise effort, improvement, resilience and positive contributions to school life alongside academic success.
