AN AMBITIOUS CURRICULUM FOR EVERY PUPIL

At Rainhill High School and RH6, our curriculum is central to our ambition to be In Pursuit of Excellence. We provide every pupil with access to a broad, ambitious and knowledge-rich education, designed to develop the knowledge, skills, character and confidence they need for future success.

Our curriculum is carefully planned from Year 7 to Year 13. From curriculum maps, identify the essential knowledge, disciplinary skills, and vocabulary pupils will learn and master over time. Content is deliberately sequenced so that pupils build securely on prior learning, make connections and develop deeper understanding over time.

CURRICULUM DESIGN

Our Curriculum Principles

Six principles underpin curriculum design across Rainhill:

01

Knowledge

Identifying and teaching the essential knowledge pupils need.

02

Sequencing

Building new learning securely on prior understanding.

03

Foundational Skills

Developing the literacy and numeracy needed to succeed across the curriculum.

04

Retention

Securing long-term learning through retrieval and purposeful review.

05

Application

Enabling pupils to think critically and apply their learning confidently.

06

Character & Culture

Developing responsible, resilient and well-rounded young people.

These shared principles provide consistency while recognising the distinctive knowledge, skills and ways of thinking within each subject.

ENTITLEMENT

Every Pupil Is Entitled to the Full Ambition of the Curriculum

AMBITION FOR EVERY PUPIL

We use information about pupils' prior learning, literacy, SEND, transition and individual circumstances to understand where they are stepping onto the curriculum and provide the right balance of support and challenge.

Starting points inform teaching; they do not place a ceiling on achievement.

Where barriers exist, teaching is adapted and additional support is provided while maintaining high expectations.

RESPONSIVE TEACHING

A Responsive Curriculum

Teachers continually establish what pupils know, understand and can do. Assessment helps identify strengths, misconceptions and gaps so that teaching can respond appropriately.

Curriculum Maps are reviewed and refined in response to assessment, quality assurance and evidence of what pupils have learned.

01

Plan

Identify the essential knowledge, skills, vocabulary and end points pupils need to learn.

02

Teach

Deliver ambitious, carefully sequenced learning through high-quality teaching.

03

Assess

Establish what pupils know, understand and can do, and identify misconceptions or gaps.

04

Adapt

Refine teaching and curriculum planning in response to evidence of pupils' learning.

THE RESULT
