REWARDS & RECOGNITION

Recognising What
Matters Most.

At Rainhill, recognition is about more than rewarding achievement. It is an important part of building and affirming the culture we want for every pupil.

We deliberately recognise the behaviours, attitudes and effort that help pupils succeed: working hard, attending well, showing commitment, responding positively to challenge, contributing to school life, supporting others and taking pride in doing things well.

Our Professional Standards of Conduct, Organisation, Commitment, Pride and Morals make these expectations clear, while our values of Learn, Think, Contribute and Care help pupils understand the character behind them.

When these behaviours become habits, they support better learning, stronger relationships, greater participation and stronger outcomes.

RECOGNISING WHAT MATTERS

Success Matters. So Does What Helps Pupils Achieve It.

We want pupils to know that success matters, but so do the effort, character and positive choices that help them achieve it.

01
Effort & Commitment

Working hard and showing commitment to learning.

02
Progress & Achievement

Making progress and achieving well.

03
Professional Standards

Demonstrating Conduct, Organisation, Commitment, Pride and Morals.

04
Attendance & Punctuality

Excellent and improving attendance and punctuality.

05
Perseverance

Responding positively to challenge and keeping going when things are difficult.

06
Contribution

Contributing positively to school and House life.

07
Leadership & Service

Taking responsibility, supporting others and contributing to the community.

08
Our Values

Demonstrating Learn, Think, Contribute and Care through actions.

Recognition is deliberately broad.

It is not limited to pupils achieving the highest grades or winning competitions. A pupil who works hard, makes significant progress, improves their attendance, perseveres with something difficult, represents Rainhill for the first time or makes a positive contribution should know that this matters.

House Points

Recognition is part of everyday school life.

EVERYDAY RECOGNITION

Recognising the Positive Things Pupils Do

House Points are our everyday way of recognising effort, progress, achievement and contribution.

Staff use House Points to recognise effort, improvement, achievement, participation, contribution and positive attitudes to learning.

House Points also contribute to each pupil’s House total.

Individual effort and achievement contribute to something bigger: the success of each House and the wider Rainhill community.

Celebrating Achievement & Contribution

Alongside everyday recognition, pupils have opportunities to be celebrated in different ways throughout the year.

ACHIEVEMENT

Achievers Awards

Celebrating achievement and success across subjects.

CHARACTER

Lions

Recognising exceptional demonstration of our Professional Standards or school values.

REPRESENTATION

Representing Rainhill

Recognising pupils who represent the school through sport, the arts, competitions and wider opportunities.

COMMITMENT

Badges

Recognising sustained commitment to activities, teams, clubs and leadership.

COMMUNITY

House Competitions

Celebrating participation, teamwork and success.

ATTENDANCE

Attendance Recognition

Celebrating excellent and improving attendance.

Achievements are also celebrated through assemblies, certificates, awards and school communications, giving pupils and families opportunities to share in their success.

BELONGING TO A HOUSE

Individual Effort. Collective Success.

Every pupil belongs to a House, creating another way to participate, contribute, compete and belong.

House Points earned by individual pupils contribute to their House total alongside points earned through House competitions and activities.

At the end of the year, the points are totalled and the winning House is announced and celebrated, recognising the collective contribution and achievements of pupils throughout the year.

What each pupil does can make a difference to their wider community.

Every Pupil Can Experience Success

Success will not look exactly the same for every pupil.

ACHIEVEMENT

An exceptional academic achievement.

PROGRESS

Making significant progress or improving attendance.

RESILIENCE

Persevering when learning is difficult.

INDEPENDENCE

Demonstrating greater responsibility and independence.

REPRESENTATION

Representing Rainhill and taking part in wider opportunities.

LEADERSHIP

Taking responsibility through leadership or service.

We want pupils to experience recognition for where they succeed and where they make a genuine effort to improve.

This helps pupils see the connection between the choices they make, the habits they develop and what they are able to achieve.

THE LONGER-TERM PURPOSE

Building Habits for Success

Our aim is not simply to reward pupils in the moment.

Recognition helps pupils understand which behaviours lead to success and why they matter.

By consistently recognising effort, achievement, contribution and character, we reinforce a culture in which pupils are encouraged to work hard, participate fully, take responsibility and aim high.

Over time, these behaviours become habits. They support pupils to learn more successfully, build positive relationships, contribute to their community and achieve stronger outcomes.

They also prepare pupils to carry the same expectations — commitment, organisation, perseverance, responsibility and pride in doing things well — into further study, employment and adult life.

ONE CONNECTED APPROACH

Character Curriculum

Helps pupils develop these qualities.

Professional Standards

Make our expectations clear.

Rewards & Recognition

Ensures that when pupils put them into practice, we notice, affirm and celebrate them.

LEARN. THINK. CONTRIBUTE. CARE.

Recognise. Reinforce. Celebrate.

We teach and model our expectations, encourage pupils as they develop and recognise them when they put those expectations into practice.

In doing so, we reinforce the culture in which pupils can belong, thrive and succeed and continue our shared Pursuit of Excellence.
