Developing the Habits
For Success.
Our Professional Standards are an important part of the Rainhill Character Curriculum. They translate our values of Learn, Think, Contribute and Care into the everyday habits, attitudes and personal qualities we want pupils to develop.
We have high expectations, but we do not simply expect pupils to know how to meet them. We teach, model and reinforce the standards, giving pupils opportunities to practise them and become increasingly confident and independent in demonstrating them.
Our Five Professional Standards
Our five standards describe the qualities and behaviours we want pupils to develop throughout their time at Rainhill.
Conduct
Respect others, be kind and always do your best.
Commitment
Work hard, stay focused and never give up.
Organisation
Manage and prioritise tasks, be on time and well equipped.
Pride
Be proud of your work and always aim to improve.
Morals
Do what is right, be fair, respectful and honest.
What This Looks Like at Rainhill
The Professional Standards are more than a set of rules. They shape how pupils approach their learning and wider school life.
Through lessons, tutor time, the Character Curriculum, assemblies and wider opportunities, pupils learn why these qualities matter as well as what is expected of them.
Developing Through the School
Our expectations develop as pupils mature. The Professional Standards remain consistent, but pupils are expected to demonstrate them with increasing independence and responsibility.
Develop
Building strong foundations. Pupils develop belonging, organisation, confidence and positive participation as they establish the habits needed to succeed at secondary school.
Challenge
Growing independence. Pupils make increasingly responsible choices, respond positively to challenge and take greater responsibility for themselves and their learning.
Competitive Edge
Preparing for the next stage. Pupils demonstrate resilience, responsibility, professionalism and increasing independence as they prepare for qualifications and life beyond Year 11.
The aim is for pupils to progress from understanding the Professional Standards, to practising them consistently, to demonstrating them independently.
Encouraging Positive Character
We actively notice and encourage pupils when they demonstrate our Professional Standards through their learning, relationships, choices, leadership and contribution to school life.
Our Rewards & Recognition programme provides opportunities to celebrate these positive behaviours alongside effort, improvement, contribution and achievement.

Conduct, Commitment, Organisation, Pride and Morals are qualities that matter well beyond school.
Through our Professional Standards, pupils develop the organisation, resilience, integrity, independence and ability to work with others that will help them succeed in further education, training, employment and adult life.
Learn. Think. Contribute. Care.
Our Professional Standards help turn these values into the everyday habits, choices and behaviours that prepare pupils for success at Rainhill and beyond.
They are one of the ways in which Learn, Think, Contribute and Care become part of everyday life at Rainhill and support our shared ambition of In Pursuit of Excellence.
