RH6 CHARACTER CURRICULUM
Preparing You for Life Beyond Sixth Form
What you achieve at RH6 matters. So does who you become and how well prepared you are for what comes next.
RH6 Character is our planned personal development programme for Years 12 and 13. Alongside academic study, it develops the knowledge, confidence, independence and judgement students need for university, apprenticeships, employment and adult life.
It reflects our ambition of In Pursuit of Excellence and our values of Learn, Think, Contribute and Care, recognising that Sixth Form brings greater freedom, independence and responsibility.
Achievement Matters. Character Matters Too.
RH6 Character prepares students not only to achieve highly, but to become increasingly confident, responsible and independent young adults.
Character at RH6
Our programme brings together seven important aspects of students' development.
Personal Development & Adult Life
Relationships and sex education, physical and emotional health, financial understanding, personal safety and the practical knowledge needed for increasing independence.
Citizenship
Understanding society, democracy, rights and responsibilities, different perspectives and contemporary issues, preparing students to participate positively in modern Britain.
Professional Habits
Developing the organisation, communication, reliability, attendance, punctuality and personal responsibility expected in higher education and employment.
Leadership & Contribution
Opportunities to lead, mentor, volunteer, represent others and contribute to RH6, Rainhill and the wider community.
Careers & Future Pathways
Work experience, encounters with employers and universities, personalised careers guidance and preparation for university, apprenticeships and employment.
Enrichment & Wider Experiences
Opportunities that broaden interests, build confidence and cultural awareness, and enable students to experience more of the world beyond their courses.
Super-Curricular Development
Wider reading, academic enrichment and experiences that allow students to explore their subjects and future interests beyond the specification.
Rainhill Values. Sixth Form Responsibility.
At RH6, Learn, Think, Contribute and Care take on greater meaning as students become young adults.
Knowledge & Independence
Develop knowledge, curiosity and increasing independence.
Judgement & Perspective
Think critically, consider different perspectives and make informed decisions.
Leadership & Participation
Participate, lead and make a positive difference.
Responsibility & Community
Take responsibility for yourself, your relationships and others.
Known, Supported and Increasingly Independent
Known as an Individual
Our smaller Sixth Form means students are known as individuals. This allows us to provide personalised guidance while encouraging students to take increasing responsibility for their learning, decisions and future.
We want every student to participate fully. Where SEND, disadvantage, financial circumstances, caring responsibilities or other barriers affect participation, we work with students to provide appropriate support.
Ready for What Comes Next
By the time students leave RH6, we want them to have achieved more than excellent qualifications.
We want them to have the independence, confidence, judgement, professional habits and character to succeed in their next destination and contribute positively to the communities they join.
Learn. Think. Contribute. Care.
Preparing students to achieve highly, live independently and contribute positively beyond Rainhill Sixth.
