RH6 CURRICULUM
A Curriculum Built Around Your Ambitions
At RH6, our curriculum combines breadth of choice with the individual attention of a smaller Sixth Form.
We offer a broad range of A-level and Level 3 courses, enabling students to build an ambitious programme of study that reflects their strengths, interests and future plans.
Our size is one of our strengths. Small classes and expert subject teaching mean that students are known well, challenged appropriately and supported to achieve highly.
Sixth Form study is about more than the qualifications students choose. Our curriculum develops the knowledge, independence, scholarship and professional habits they need to succeed at RH6 and beyond.
Choosing the Right Programme
Choosing the right combination of courses is an important part of preparing for Sixth Form.
We work with students individually to help them make informed choices, taking account of their GCSE achievement, subject strengths, interests and future aspirations.

Sixth Form represents an important step up from GCSE.
Courses involve greater depth, complexity and independence, and students take increasing responsibility for managing their own learning.
Read widely and develop deeper knowledge beyond classroom teaching.
Research independently and explore subjects in greater depth.
Practise, revisit and consolidate learning between lessons.
Meet deadlines and manage an increasingly demanding workload.
Use independent study time purposefully and effectively.
We support students through this transition, progressively developing the habits and confidence they need to become successful independent learners.
Expert Teaching and Small Classes
One of the distinctive benefits of RH6 is the combination of expert subject teaching and small class sizes.
Known Well. Challenged Appropriately.
With an average class size of around 10 students, teachers know their students well and can provide high levels of individual attention, challenge and feedback.
Where additional help is needed, tailored academic and study support helps students strengthen their knowledge, organisation and study habits.
Beyond the Specification
We want students to develop a genuine interest in their subjects and experience learning that goes beyond preparing for examinations.
Our Supercurriculum extends students' knowledge and experience through:
Wider Reading
Exploring ideas, research and perspectives beyond course specifications.
Subject Enrichment
Opportunities that deepen understanding and bring subjects to life.
Speakers & Workshops
Learning from specialists, professionals and external organisations.
Universities & Employers
Experiences connected to higher education, careers and future ambitions.
This develops intellectual curiosity, deeper subject knowledge and confidence, while helping students prepare for competitive university courses, apprenticeships and employment.
Learning with a Purpose
Our curriculum is closely connected to what students want to achieve after RH6.
Alongside their courses, students benefit from work experience, careers education, university and employer encounters and personalised careers guidance.
This helps students understand the opportunities available to them and make informed decisions about university, higher and degree apprenticeships, specialist pathways and employment.
Curriculum With a Clear Destination
Successful progression is a strength of Rainhill. Our curriculum is designed not simply to help students gain qualifications, but to prepare them to succeed in their next stage.
An Ambitious Curriculum for Every Student
We are ambitious for every student.
Because we know our students well, we can identify where SEND, disadvantage, health, financial circumstances or other barriers may affect learning and provide appropriate support.
This may include academic support, reasonable adjustments or financial assistance to help students access their courses and wider opportunities.
Remove Barriers. Maintain Ambition.
Support should enable students to access challenge and opportunity, not reduce expectations.
Our Values in Sixth Form Study
Our curriculum reflects Rainhill's ambition of In Pursuit of Excellence and our values of Learn, Think, Contribute and Care.
Scholarship & Independence
Develop deep knowledge, scholarship and independence.
Curiosity & Analysis
Question, analyse and engage confidently with complex ideas.
Participation & Responsibility
Participate, collaborate and make a positive contribution to RH6 and beyond.
Character & Community
Take responsibility for themselves, others and their future.
By the time students leave RH6, we want them to have achieved strong qualifications while also developing the knowledge, independence, character and professional habits that will help them thrive beyond school.
Ambitious Study. Individual Attention. Confident Progression.
We want every RH6 student to leave with strong qualifications, greater independence and the confidence to succeed in their next stage.
