PUPIL LEADERSHIP & PARLIAMENT

Having a Voice. Making a Contribution.

At Rainhill, we want pupils to know that their voice matters — and that with a voice comes responsibility.

Pupil leadership is a planned part of our wider Character Curriculum and brings our value of Contribute to life.

Pupils have opportunities to express their views, represent others, influence school life, serve their community and develop the confidence to take increasing responsibility.

SCHOOL PARLIAMENT

Voice With Purpose

Our School Parliament gives pupils a structured and democratic way to contribute to their school.

DEMOCRATIC PARTICIPATION

Pupils Can Help Shape School Life

Parliament provides a formal route for pupils to raise issues, represent the views of others, explore ideas and contribute constructively to decisions.

Raise Issues Represent the views and concerns of others.
Discuss & Debate Explore ideas and consider different perspectives.
Listen Understand the experiences and opinions of others.
Influence Contribute to decisions about school life.
Participate Take part in democratic processes.
Act Help turn ideas into positive action.
VOICE SHOULD LEAD SOMEWHERE

Where Parliament makes recommendations, these are considered by school leaders and outcomes are communicated back to pupils.

We want pupils to see that constructive participation can make a difference.
LEARNING BY DOING

Democracy in Practice

Experience Democracy, Not Just Learn About It

Through representation, discussion, debate and voting, pupils develop an understanding of democracy, active citizenship and the responsibilities that come with having a voice.

Pupils also learn that people will not always agree.

Listening, considering evidence, respecting different perspectives and disagreeing constructively are important skills for school and adult life.

Listen. Consider. Respect. Disagree constructively.
LEADERSHIP BEYOND PARLIAMENT

Leadership extends beyond Parliament. Pupils can contribute in many different ways across school life.

LEADERSHIP IS MORE THAN A TITLE

Leadership can mean speaking up, listening well, helping someone else, representing people fairly, accepting responsibility or following through on a commitment.

We want pupils with different strengths, backgrounds and experiences to see leadership as something they can be part of.
