October Sports Round Up

October Sports Round-Up: Rainhill Shines

October has been another action-packed and successful month for sport at Rainhill High School, with pupils across all year groups demonstrating outstanding enthusiasm, determination and teamwork. From impressive football and rugby victories to exciting netball festivals, badminton fixtures and padel sessions, our young athletes have continued to represent the school with pride.

The month has highlighted not only the sporting talent within Rainhill High School but also the importance of participation, resilience and sportsmanship, with fantastic numbers of pupils taking advantage of the opportunities offered by our PE department.

Football: Impressive Performances Across the Year Groups

October has been a particularly successful month for our football teams, with excellent performances and strong participation across several year groups.

Our Year 7 boys made a fantastic start to the month, with an impressive turnout for football training, demonstrating their enthusiasm and commitment to representing the school. Their dedication was rewarded later in October when they secured two convincing victories in friendly fixtures against De La Salle, winning 4–0 and 4–1 respectively.

Our Year 8 and 9 girls also enjoyed a competitive football festival, gaining valuable match experience ahead of their Merseyside Cup fixture against St Julie’s. The festival provided an excellent opportunity for the players to develop their teamwork, confidence and match fitness.

Meanwhile, our Year 9 boys delivered some outstanding performances. Both teams finished unbeaten at their football festival, with an incredible 29 Year 9 pupils representing Rainhill High School across just two days.

Further success followed with an impressive 8–3 victory for our Year 9 boys, featuring goals from Josh M, Brandon P, Leon M and Jacob L. The result reflected the team’s attacking ability, determination and excellent collective performance.

Netball: Strong Participation and Promising Performances

Netball has continued to flourish at Rainhill High School, with excellent attendance at training sessions and encouraging performances in competitive fixtures.

Our Year 8 girls enjoyed a fantastic start to their season, winning nine of their twelve matches at their first netball festival of the academic year. Their impressive results demonstrated excellent teamwork, developing skills and a determination to succeed.

Our Year 10 team also made school sporting history by competing in their first-ever Merseyside Cup netball fixture. Although they were unable to secure victory against a strong Chesterfield side, the experience proved invaluable. The challenging encounter encouraged the players to demonstrate resilience, improve their performances and develop a greater understanding of competitive netball.

Towards the end of the month, our Year 7 girls participated in their first netball festival of the season. Both Rainhill teams produced identical records of one win, one draw and one defeat, displaying encouraging teamwork and considerable potential for the season ahead.

With consistently strong attendance at extracurricular netball sessions, the future certainly looks promising for the sport at Rainhill.

Rugby: Outstanding Victories and League Success

October brought plenty of reasons to celebrate for our rugby players, both in school competitions and through their achievements with local clubs.

A particularly proud moment came when seven Rainhill pupils helped Thatto Heath’s Under-12s secure their league title. Jakob, Matty, Louie, Callum, Jack, Henry and Harrison were all part of the successful squad, whose hard-fought 10–10 draw against St Jude’s in the decisive fixture was enough to clinch the championship.

Their achievement is a fantastic reflection of the commitment, dedication and sporting ability demonstrated by our pupils beyond the school gates.

Our Year 8 school rugby team also produced an outstanding performance during their visit to Haydock, securing a commanding 46–4 victory.

The team displayed excellent attacking rugby, impressive teamwork and determination throughout the fixture. Matty Mc and Theo W were among the try scorers, producing some particularly memorable moments, while Callum D earned the well-deserved Player of the Match award.

Congratulations to everyone involved in another excellent month for Rainhill rugby.

Badminton and Padel: Developing Skills and Confidence

Our pupils have also enjoyed opportunities to develop their abilities in a variety of racket sports throughout October.

A fantastic afternoon of friendly badminton fixtures against Haydock provided an opportunity for pupils to test their skills in a competitive but supportive environment. The matches encouraged teamwork, concentration and good sportsmanship, while allowing players to gain valuable experience.

Our Year 10 pupils also continued their padel sessions at Soul Padel, enjoying another excellent opportunity to experience this increasingly popular sport.

These sessions provide pupils with the chance to develop coordination, agility and tactical awareness while exploring different sporting activities beyond the traditional PE curriculum.

We would like to thank Soul Padel for their continued hospitality and support.

Gymnastics: Creativity and Performance

It has not all been about competitive fixtures this month, with our Year 9 pupils demonstrating fantastic creativity and skill during their gymnastics lessons.

Pupils worked hard to develop, rehearse and perform their own routines, combining balance, coordination, control and teamwork.

Their performances reflected the effort and imagination they had invested in their work, highlighting the wide range of sporting and physical activities available through the PE curriculum at Rainhill High School.

A Fantastic Month for Rainhill Sport

October has once again demonstrated the strength and diversity of sport at Rainhill High School. From competitive victories and league titles to outstanding participation in training sessions and festivals, our pupils have continued to embrace every opportunity with enthusiasm and determination.

While the results have provided plenty of reasons to celebrate, it is equally important to recognise the commitment, resilience and positive attitudes displayed by all those who have represented the school.

A huge thank you must also go to our dedicated PE department, whose continued hard work ensures that pupils have access to such a wide range of sporting opportunities, alongside the families, coaches and local clubs who support their development.

Congratulations to all our pupils on another fantastic month of sporting achievement. We look forward to seeing even more success, participation and memorable moments as the academic year continues.

In Pursuit of Excellence.
