FEBRUARY SPORTS ROUNDUP | Rainhill High School

FEBRUARY SPORTS ROUNDUP

It has been an excellent and action-packed week for Rainhill PE, with pupils across all year groups demonstrating commitment, teamwork, and sporting excellence in a variety of fixtures and competitions.

Our Year 8 rugby team delivered a strong performance in a friendly fixture against Cowley, securing an impressive 28–14 victory. Tries were scored by B. Hesdon, T. Bartley, J. Abbott and L. Stephenson, with successful goal kicks from L. Stephenson and D. Condell.

The Year 7/8 girls’ football team were unfortunate to narrowly miss out in the Merseyside Cup against Woodchurch High School. A special commendation goes to Sophie for her outstanding contribution while playing out of position.

Meanwhile, our Year 11 boys achieved an excellent result in the Merseyside Cup, defeating Gateacre to progress to the next round. Goals were scored by Frost, Barks, Williams and Campbell.

At the Ruskin Drive football festival, the Year 8 B Team enjoyed a fantastic afternoon. Both teams won all of their matches without conceding a goal, highlighting the depth of talent and enthusiasm within the squad.

Our Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 girls’ badminton teams competed admirably in the regional round of the National Schools Badminton Competition. Although progression to the finals was not achieved, all players displayed excellent skill and exemplary sportsmanship.

Finally, it has been a superb week of inter-house sport, with every Key Stage 3 pupil proudly representing their house across football, dodgeball and netball. A fantastic effort from all involved.
